Petroleum AdditivesSulfonic acids, petroleum, sodium salts CAS#68608-26-4
Chemical name: The English name of sodium petroleum sulfonate is “Sodium petroleum sulfonate”, and its Chinese aliases include sodium alkyl sulfonate, T702 rust inhibitor, and sodium petroleum sulfonate T702.
Molecular formula: Generally expressed as RSO₃Na (R=C₁₄~C₂₂ alkyl).
Appearance: Usually a brown-red translucent viscous body.
Physical properties:
Solubility: Easily soluble in water to form a translucent liquid, relatively stable to acid, alkali and hard water.
Density: Some data show that the density is about 1.09 (the specific value may vary slightly due to the production process and product purity).
Chemical properties: It is an anionic surfactant, with a strongly hydrophilic sulfonic acid group connected to a hydrocarbon group in the molecular structure, strong surface activity, and good solubility in low-temperature water.
Production process: Petroleum fractions (230-320℃) are first hydrogenated or treated with concentrated sulfuric acid to remove unsaturated hydrocarbons to obtain pure alkanes, which are then reacted with chlorine and sulfur dioxide under ultraviolet light to form monochlorine compounds, and then saponified with caustic soda to obtain the product.
