Isononanol CAS# 27458-94-2

Isononanol can be prepared by catalytic hydrogenation of diisobutyl ketone, or by isooctene from butene, then isononaldehyde from formylation, and finally by hydrogenation.
Isononanol is an important organic chemical raw material, mainly used in the production of plasticizers, such as diisononyl phthalate (DINP), diisononyl cyclohexane 1,2-dicarboxylate (DINCH), etc. DINP is a general non-toxic plasticizer with excellent heat resistance, light resistance, aging resistance and electrical insulation. It is widely used in toy films, automobiles, wires, cables, flooring, construction and other fields.

isononyl alcohol Usage And Synthesis
Uses Basis of plasticizers such as diisononyl adipate.
Definition A Higher alcohol developed in early 1968. Combustible.
Production Methods Isononyl alcohol is made in the oxo process by reacting olefins with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst, followed by hydrogenation. The commercial product typically consists of dimethyl-1-heptanols and methyl-1-octanols; the composition and CAS registry number depend on the olefin feedstock.
Flammability and Explosibility Non flammable
